Fourth of July Pet Safety

With the Fourth of July coming up, there will be numerous fireworks to celebrate the birth of our nation. This is an enjoyable time to get together with friends and family at the beach or fire up the barbeque. It is a fun time to gather and watch the beautiful colors flash across the dark evening sky.

The last thing we think of during this time of the year is our pets, but they are often traumatized by the loud noises, flashes and burning smells from the fireworks. Dogs have heightened senses and they can smell about 1,000 to 10,000 more times compared to a human and depending on the breed of the animal.

July 5 is busiest day out of the whole year for animal shelters because pets become crippled with terror from the loud noises that they escape into the night getting injured or sometimes killed. This is why it is important to keep your pet inside. If you are having a party and people are coming in and out of your house it’s better to put your dog or cat in a safe room. This will prevent them from sneaking out of the house if someone forgets to shut the door all the way. Staying in with your pet during this time will bring them a sense of comfort and stability while all of the loud fireworks are going off.

Not all pets get upset over the loud fireworks. If your pet is okay you can always let them outside on your screened in porch so that they can be near you. When they are in the screened in porch you won’t have to worry about them trying to jump over a fence or dig their way out if the fireworks are too much to handle.

At Tripod Aluminum a screened in porch makes a wonderful addition to the home and allows your animals to experience the outside without you having to worry about them escaping over the Fourth of July holiday. With a screened in porch in Palm Bay, Florida, we have many options for you to choose from to help keep your pets safe.
